Firefox 3 Download Day Announced: Tuesday, June 17

firefoxlogo.jpgIt’s official: Firefox 3 will arrive Tuesday, June 17. The Mozilla Developer News blog posted the announcement this morning, saying that “after more than 34 months of active development, and with the contributions of thousands, we’re proud to announce that we’re ready.”

Of course there’s always the chance a show-stopping bug will be discovered before then, which could cause a delay. Already a major bug was found in the Mac version which necessitated a third release candidate for Mac users.

But barring the unforeseeable, Firefox 3 should be available to the public early next week. As part of the release Mozilla is pushing for a “Firefox Download Day” when millions of users will attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the most software downloads in 24 hours.

If you were planning a great Firefox nerd party, you have your date.
