History Lesson

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the ship after its stop in New York.

This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.

The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.

The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as

Sinko de Mayo.

(Thanks, Wendy!)

Thought for today: Remember, no mayonnaise in Ireland.

tao te ching

verse 27

a good traveler has no fixed plans
and is not intent upon arriving
a good artist lets his intuition
lead him wherever it wants
a good scientist has freed himself of concepts
and keeps his mind open to what is

thus the master is available to all people
and doesn't reject anyone
he is ready to use all situations
and doesn't waste anything
this is called embodying the light

what is a good man but a bad man's teacher?
what is a bad man but a good man's job?
if you don't understand this, you will get lost
however intelligent you are
it is the great secret

The best movie trailer re-edits

From Taxi Driver as a rom-com to Mary Poppins as a horror, it's surprising how effective a re-written voice over and a few well chosen songs on the soundtrack can be. Have a look at these fan-made, re-edited movie trailers and vote for the most inventive, convincing and ultimately entertaining ones.
