The pizza guy and Ethanol

A real world example of how the global warming nonsense which led to government subsidized corn production has effected our lives.
I made friends with the pizza guy in our complex, we share an espresso every evening.
He was telling me about flour prices. You see, everyone is planting corn for ethanol so the wheat production has fallen drastically. How drastically you might ask.

20 years ago he paid $9.00 for a bag of flour and over those 20 years it went up to $12.00 a bag. But when the Ethanol program kicked in the price of flour soared to $42.00 a bag!

On Memorial Day, 1983 in Liberty, Indiana, Joseph Alvin Sawyer,
Sr.gave the annual speech honoring veterans to citizens and veterans
assembled on the courthouse lawn in the center of town. Sawyer had been a
sergeant and paratrooper in the Army during World War II. He'd moved in
1948 to the small farming community in eastern Indiana to raise his
family. His wife and children watched with particular pride because he was
the first African-American veteran asked to speak on Memorial Day.

Global warming on Jupiter!

The only thing I cannot figure out is how George bush, Big Oil and all those SUV'S are causing global warming on Jupiter?

Explanation: For about 300 years Jupiter's banded atmosphere has shown a remarkable feature to telescopic viewers, a large swirling storm system known as The Great Red Spot. In 2006, another red storm system appeared, actually seen to form as smaller whitish oval-shaped storms merged and then developed the curious reddish hue. Now, Jupiter has a third red spot, again produced from a smaller whitish storm. All three are seen in this image made from data recorded on May 9 and 10 with the Hubble Space Telescope's Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2. The spots extend above the surrounding clouds and their red color may be due to deeper material dredged up by the storms and exposed to ultraviolet light, but the exact chemical process is still unknown. For scale, the Great Red Spot has almost twice the diameter of planet Earth, making both new spots less than one Earth-diameter across. The newest red spot is on the far left (west), along the same band of clouds as the Great Red Spot and is drifting toward it. If the motion continues, the new spot will encounter the much larger storm system in August. Jupiter's recent outbreak of red spots is likely related to large scale climate change as the gas giant planet is getting warmer near the equator.

the sage seeks to satisfy (the craving of) the belly, and
not the (insatiable longing of the) eyes.  He puts from him the
latter, and prefers to seek the former.


Favour and disgrace would seem equally to be feared; honour and
great calamity, to be regarded as personal conditions (of the same
kind).

What is meant by speaking thus of favour and disgrace?  Disgrace is
being in a low position (after the enjoyment of favour).  The getting
that (favour) leads to the apprehension (of losing it), and the losing
it leads to the fear of (still greater calamity):--this is what is
meant by saying that favour and disgrace would seem equally to be
feared.

And what is meant by saying that honour and great calamity are to be
(similarly) regarded as personal conditions?  What makes me liable to
great calamity is my having the body (which I call myself); if I had
not the body, what great calamity could come to me?
